While there have been some disappointments along the way, 2017 has given audiences an overwhelming number of memorable movie characters. And specifically, this year has featured some of the most well-dressed blockbuster movie characters to be introduced on the big screen in quite some time. So whether it be a formerly-retired hitman with an expensive taste or a futuristic bounty hunter, here are five of the most stylish movie characters to appear on the silver screen so far this year.
STAR-LORD IN GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2
From the moment that Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord danced with a red leather, space jacket in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s held a place as one of the more distinct male cinematic heroes of this century. The character continued that same style and swagger in this year’s sequel, with even deeper musical tastes and crime-fighting moves. So if Peter Quill is, indeed, an example of how fashion will look in space one day, then we can at least breathe that one sigh of relief.
‘K’ IN BLADE RUNNER: 2049
Ryan Gosling emotes cool in a way that almost no other male movie star does nowadays. So if anyone was going to emerge from the crowd grungy, overdone outfits of Blade Runner 2049 with a bad ass leather trenchcoat and fur collar, it was always going to be him. True, it may not be as iconic as his Scorpion-embroidered number from Drive, but it’s memorable enough in its own right.
BABY DRIVER’S BABY
It’s practically impossible to imagine a world where some audience members didn’t leave Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver wanting to wear the same jacket as its titular getaway driver. It’s not quite as eye-catching as Drive‘s Scorpion jacket, but it’s the perfect jacket for Ansel Elgort’s Baby to wear. Neither obvious nor forgettable, the jacket manages to perfectly bring together Baby’s otherwise 1950s-esque white t-shirt and blue jeans aesthetic.
AGENT TEQUILA IN KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE
The Kingsman franchise is known for its well-dressed British spy characters, and the series managed to keep that tradition going with their American counterparts this year as well. That’s especially true with Channing Tatum’s Agent Tequila, who uses a traditional denim jacket, eye-catching belt buckle, and cowboy hat to make an unforgettable impression. He might as well be the coolest modern-day cowboy to be featured in any movie of recent memory.
JOHN IN JOHN WICK: CHAPTER TWO
It’s true that there’s almost no other movie character around right now, who’s as good at killing people as Keanu Reeves’ John Wick is. But there’s also few who take quite as much pride in their wardrobe as he does. Thanks to his finely-tailored (and armored) Italian suits, John is able to give off his professional, dangerous reputation with this look, before he even bothers to take out his gun.
